We had a great time at this campground. Just remember it is a "camp" ground. No electric no water, mostly private, woodsy, sites. I could see where improvements could be made. Fix up picnic tables, a little gravel here and there but all in all a good camp area. We like to be in the woods with wildlife and lots of shade trees. Fire pits are in good shape. Roads into and around the park are paved and in good shape. Dump station works well and is graded properly. Lots of hiking only trails are available. Camp store and gift shop are well stocked. One of the few restaurants on the Blue ridge parkway is located near the campground and serves very good food. Great trip, just be prepared to be self contained!
Great Wooded campground. Lots of hiking and biking trails. No water at sites, but close. Nice area back in the woods, mostly level and clean. Bathrooms very clean and maintained daily. Will definably return soon!
Nice State Park. Clean Level sites, Gravel, and Sand. Roads into the camping area are Loose sand and a little gravel. A little rough and rutty but passable. Nice rangers and camp host. We had to stay in the primitive area because hookups were full. Wish we could have made reservations but SC parks will only allow 2 consecutive night reservations. overnighters have to take their chances on not being full. Overall a nice Campground we will return again.
We liked this park. They are very strict on the rules...No Alcohol, Dogs in leash at ALL times, NO swimming in the Potomac river. They have an awesome Olympic size pool right on the river bank and it is kept spotless. Lots of fishermen along the banks. If you like fishing bring your tackle and cut squid. Rangers very actively patrol the park so you will definitely feel safe. My only complaint of the park is the water pressure. we couldn't get more than 20PSI out of our hookups. the bath house seemed fine but we had to fill our tanks and use our water pump to get enough pressure to shower. All around good park to spend the weekend!
This campground has the most friendly management we have ever encountered!! They were very accommodating even thought we had no reservations. Everything was in order at the site 50amp,water,sewer.. we had our first concrete pad and liked not having to level very much. We had no neighbours so it was like being alone. If the campground was full we may have had a different experience. We had a great time here and will definitely return.
This State Park is one of the newest parks in virginia. All roads into the park are paved and well graded...No problems with Big Rig access. All sites are gravel, level, with good drainage. New Electrical boxes with 20,30,and 50 amp service. Water pressure around 40 p.s.i. Lots of trails to bike and hike on. Horses are allowed in most areas of the park also. Restrooms were new and well maintained. This may be our favorite park yet!!
We found this campground to have lots of things for the kids to do. Lake swimming,Ranger led activates, mountain bike trails,Free concerts, and always friendly park rangers. The only bad side we saw is that most of the sites in whiteoak campground where we stayed were not very level. it took 5 in. of levers to get us level. Also as posted in another review the bath and showers could have used some really good cleaning. A big bottle of bleach could have fixed it right up. Overall a good place to stay. Had a good labor day holiday.
We enjoyed our stay at this park. clean showers, relatively flat, no big grades into or around the park. I would like to see this campground pave the main loop around the campground,as it made for a noisy annoyance while trying to sleep sometimes. I wish you didn't have to drive to get to the many great areas of this park but it was just too spaced out to ride our bicycles any where. overall good park had a great time.
This is our Favorite state park. It has a great lake swimming beach with life guards and a kids swimming area. Hiking trails are well kept and the rangers are very nice. Campground is small at 30 sites. The sites are not very level, it took me 4" to get level. All sites are paved and clean. All things considered we like small quaint parks that arent crowded.
Great campground!! The family enjoyed our stay July 4th week. Quite a few seasonals in the campground. The only suggestion we have is make sure you have mosquito repellent.. lots o skeeters.
we enjoyed our stay at Fairy Stone. Facilities were always clean and well kept. We saw many rangers patrolling and helping if needed. Lake swimming was nice and had lifeguards present. Check-in area was a little tight but manageable.
This was our second stay at this state park and it was great. they have just opened a new thirty site loop and it is all paved with new elec.and water hookups. new bath houses are awesome, large showers, open restrooms, laundry room, and well lit. We felt very at home in this campground. The old section may have a more rustic feel but the new loop is the bomb!
This is a great park on the chesapeake bay. Sites are sandy and are behind the dunes so you cant see the ocean but can walk right over the dunes on the walkways. The showers were a bit rundown and needed updating. Beware of soft sand we got stuck and had to dig to get out barely did thinking we would have to get a 4x4 to get the trailer out. Lots of privacy around the dune area. Recently updated to 50 amp service and water on alot of sites
We like state parks because of the atmosphere, but this park seemed to pack people everywhere. we were surrounded on both sides as close as 15 feet away. The lake swimming was also a disappointment, lots of debris floating around and the bottem had leaves and vegetation all around. We swam about 10 min. and got out for fear of stepping on something. Penn parks also had no water hookups which means lots of water hauling...NOT FUN.. We stayed one night and were outta there.
